Nag Tibba: A Perfect Weekend Getaway From Delhi!!

The journey to the trek started either from Mussorie or from Dehradun. The trek starts from Pantwari village. The base camp of the trek Pantwari village is a small village of 50 houses. People living there are helpful and nice. There are a few small shops selling daily essentials. Alcohol and non-veg is not available in the village. An easy hike in the remote region will take you to Nag Tibba. In starting, climbing is moderate with some steep climbs. The panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks from the top are astounding. Bandarpooch, Swargarohini, Srikanth, and black peak are some of the peaks which are visible. The next best highlight of the trek is the amazing campsites at lush meadows, thick jungles, and other scenic locations.

The trek will take you through quaint hamlets, a rich variety of flora and fauna, dense groves of rhododendron, pines, oaks, and cedar, lush meadows with pristine white snow. The views of the snow-capped mountains will leave you speechless. The best part of Nag Tibba trek, it is a circular trek which has a different ending point than the starting point.

Another interesting fact is, Nag Tibba is the highest peak in the Nag Tibba range. It comes under the three ranges of the lesser Himalayas region- The Dhauladhars, Pir Panjal, and Nag Tibba range. Nag means “Serpent” and Tibba means “Hill”. The hill is dedicated to the God of snakes and one temple is located on the hill. The locals offer prayers to Nag Devta to protect their cattle.

The weather at Nag Tibba drops down to 5 degrees to -8 degrees celsius. Sudden snowfall will decrease the temperature. Summers are also good to visit Nag Tibba. The sun shines a little bright and you will see less greenery.

Things to Carry on the trek:

  • Carry your own water bottle and do not forget to refill it as there are only 2 stops on the entire trek.

  • It is advisable to carry some handy snacks like chocolates, protein bars, that will give you instant energy.

  • Always wear warm and water clothes to save yourself from the chilly breezes and cold weather.

  • Make sure that you should carry waterproof clothes and a fleece jacket.

  • A pair of good quality shoes.

  • Always carry some extra batteries and power banks.

  • Carry small items like sanitizer, medical kit, essential toiletries, etc.

How to reach Nag Tibba?

  • There is no direct way to reach Pantwari village. You have to reach Dehradun or Mussorie to start the trek. Mussorie is 56km from Pantwari village and Dehradun is 90km.

  • The Jolly Grant airport is the nearest to Dehradun just 20km from the city. Taxis, buses, are available that will take you to Pantwari village.

  • Dehradun is well-connected to all the major cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Mumbai, etc. there are a lot of direct trains available for Dehradun. Take a direct train from Delhi and reach Dehradun.

  • There a lot of buses available for Dehradun. Take a direct bus from Delhi and reach Dehradun. Then, take another bus to reach Pantwari village.

Important points to keep in mind:

  • Make sure you are physically and mentally strong before going on the trek.

  • Keep yourself hydrated and eat nutritious food. Do not skip your meal during the trek.

  • Acute mountain sickness is very common at higher altitudes. Be prepared for that and carry proper medication.

  • Take proper safety measures and use high-quality trekking gear.

  • Collect all the important and necessary information about the trek and prepare yourself accordingly.

  • Do not take shortcuts. Remember your safety on the trek is in your own hands.

  • Do not wander alone here and there. Always stay in a group.
